S.J Fine Foods Ltd. is a manufacturer of high-quality processed meats for the foodservice and retail industries and operates out of a facility located in Saskatoon, SK.
OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE:
Oversee day to day Plant Operations achieve and maintain overall yearly forecasted budget and ensure the manufacturing processes run reliably and efficiently. The Business Operations Manager will plan, organize, direct and control the activities of production; lead the production of goods and services of right quality and quantity at the right time and right manufacturing cost.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work closely with Company Controller, includes costing, labour, and inventory variances
- Provide resources to achieve food and safety quality, and determining quality control standards
- Provide full support to QA/HACCP department for developing, implementing and maintaining an effective Food Safety System
- Oversee production processes and product scheduling between RAW and RTE for efficient production including product development
- Oversee Maintenance Department for any issues with refrigeration, equipment and machines on a daily basis
- Responsible for sourcing needed equipment for plant requirements to achieve maximum plant efficiency
- Communicate with Plant Management and QA for any sanitization, maintenance and food safety issues daily
- Communicate with other corporate companies outside sales, private label sales for new product development, liaising with buyers, marketing and sales staff
- Planning and organizing production schedules, and re-negotiating timescales or schedules as necessary
- Assessing project and resource requirements
- Estimating, negotiating and agreeing budgets and timescales with clients and managers
- Ensuring that health and safety regulations are met
- Oversee ordering and purchasing materials
- Oversee the repair and routine maintenance of production equipment
- Oversee supervising the work of production workers
- May organize relevant training sessions
- Involved in staff recruitment
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5-10 years past work experience as a Production Plant Manager in the Food Industry
- Adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resources allocation)
- Mechanically Inclined; understands operational functions and operational tools
- Familiar with industry standard equipment and technical expertise
- Be knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity
- Strong team building, decision-making and people management skills
- Project management skills
- Organization and efficiency

- Packaging experience
- Good understanding of KPIs in production
- Planning knowledge
- SQF or BRC audit experience
- QA and R&D knowledge
- Basic idea of an ERP system
